This is a project where I was asked to come up with an invention and create the visuals of the product and the company behind it.
My invention is an automatic knife sharpener that is compact and efficient for at-home use.
I envisioned the fictitious company behind the product to be a newer Japanese company looking to expand to the global market. When researching Japanese company logos, I found that many of them only used the color red, especially those associated with traditional trades like blade work. They also often use Japanese brush script for their brandmark.
I decided to combine the traditional red color with a modern typeface for the brandmark. The word deba means knife in Japanese, so I also incorporated a knife into it.
For the product logo I combined the silhouette of a knife with a strong, bold typeface for a modern feel.
